As a $76B industry in the US today, mobile commerce accounts for 22% of the total $350B eCommerce market. While this is still only 1.5% of the $5 Trillion retail industry in the US, the biggest impact of mobile in retail isn’t direct sales generated through the mobile commerce channel. Instead more than half of in-store sales are digitally influenced by mobile and eCommerce. It is estimated that by 2018 up to 80% of total US retail sales of $5.5 Trillion will be mobile influenced. In this session you will learn from Nico du Plessis how mobile is being used to influence omnichannel sales through the customer journey and path to purchase.
Nico will also review how mobile played a significant role during the Holiday 2015 season. Mobile device traffic exceeded desktop traffic on Black Friday for the first time ever when mobile sales increased 30% YoY and 53% YoY on cybermonday. He will also cover key insights from the National Retail Federation (NRF) FitForCommerce Omnichannel Retail Index study where digital experts mystery-shopped and evaluated 120 multichannel and pure play brands including retailers’ web, mobile, and in-store experiences against 200+ criteria.

Under his leadership, The Weather Channel Mobile exceeded over 100 Million app downloads and ranked among the top five most downloaded apps in the Apple App Store. At Victoria’s Secret Direct, the world’s largest online apparel retailer with over $2 Billion in revenues, he developed and led the eCommerce Strategy to drive Direct-to-Consumer sales, managed online acquisition marketing, launched mobile and increased mobile conversion 194%.
Nico has also driven outcomes for clients during his consulting careers at A.T. Kearney Management Consulting and Deloitte & Touche in a variety of industries.
Nico obtained his MBA at The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and was voted as one of the Top Five Entrepreneurs in South Africa.
